Mexico has had a female candidate in most recent presidential elections. Each time people ask whether the country is prepared for a woman in the role. The question stems from the belief that women are fundamentally different from men and thus cannot govern like men.

Reaching a younger generation of women

In my work I have the honor of mentoring a community of young women who come from poverty as they move forward to college careers. Many of my students have histories of youth homelessness and childhood trauma. In the past twelve years of doing this work, I have learned lessons about mentoring.
