Goddess archetypes give us windows into alternative and healthier ways of understanding what it means to be a woman, windows large enough to frame all of us who are struggling to find deeper and more authentic gender identities in a patriarchal world.
Next week Mexico goes to the polls to choose its next president. Both in and outside Mexico, one of the most reported aspects of the race has been the fact that one of the mainstream parties—the National Action Party—fielded a women as their candidate.
In my formative years I was lucky to be surrounded by Islamist activists (not the stereotypical sort one sees on TV) who advocated liberty and justice for all people. We supported religious freedom for socialist and Christian activists in Latin America just as we supported the rights of Muslims in Kashmir and Palestine.
